Road 9

Road 9 was founded in 2003 as a Fiber-To-The-Home private network builder, owner, operator and integrator of value-added video, telephony, high-speed internet, security and media services. The founders are two industry veterans with a successful track record with start-up companies, and extensive relationships in the telecom industry. The Chairman and co-founder, Don Rankin, previously founded Beechwood Data Systems, a telecom service provider that sold for $200 million to Cap Gemini in 1999. The Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Jim King, was formerly EVP for Business Development of Beechwood Data Systems, Vice President of Titan Corporation and Director & Vice President of BDM International.

The initial focus of the company was to deliver fiber optic networks and services to large developments throughout the US. However after careful analysis of the market place, Road 9 discovered a significant opportunity in the upscale resort market, and quickly shifted focus to capitalize on this fast growing segment. Looking beyond the US they further discovered a booming second home market south of the boarder in Mexico.

Seizing upon this opportunity Road 9 landed the high profile development of Loreto Bay on the Sea of Cortez as its first customer. Loreto Bay, besides being the largest planned development in Mexico, was also receiving international attention as a model for sustainable development, and provided Road 9 with excellent exposure. The company has since expanded in Mexico to include developments in Puerto Penasco, San Felipe, Los Cabos, and is steadily expanding its market reach. Road 9 is also in the process of bringing up two developments in Colorado and Georgia. Working with the Agility lease funding program has positioned Road 9 to take advantage of these opportunities and allowed us to be very aggressive in our selection of projects as we changed our focus.

Understanding that high end second home resorts communities have unique needs, Road 9 has developed services specifically tailored to these communities, and has eclipsed the role of a standard “Triple Play Provided”. IT has evolved into a unique high-value service integrator whose capabilities extend the power of fiber optics to the home and entire community. The result is a unique portfolio of products and services that include a “Quadruple Play” bundle of voice, data, video, and security services, as well as wiring the home with the latest technology, and providing a full package of home electronics and home automation products. A further level of value is provided by extending services beyond the individual home to the entire community, offering such services as common area WI-FI, and community portal’s for the sharing of information relative to the community.
